New teachers will step up with:
- Coaching with a TPS coach who has completed the Wisconsin Mentoring Program training. The new teacher may be new to teaching in general or new to teacher-powered. If the school team has more than one new teacher, a single TPS coach would work with all new teachers from that school. Mentoring relationships would exist for two to three years and meet Wisconsin Admin. Code sec. PI 34.040(5). Area of mentorship may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- 9 TPS Practices
- Collaboration skill-building and modeling (problem-solving thinking, compromise, and negotiation)
- A deep-dive into the autonomies and teacher-poweredness of your specific school’s model
- Resource dissemination to mentee
- Facilitation of role within the collaborative
Existing teams will:
- Strengthen your team’s implementation of teacher-powered practices and define what a teacher-powered building is to the team—and how the collective assesses its effectiveness
- Refine your decision-making processes
- Utilize autonomies to improve student outcomes
- Improve collective agency with 9 TPS practices
- Define expectations, responsibilities, and roles of team members
- Engage in data-driven continuous improvement cycles
Commitments for new teachers or existing teams:
- 2 hours of coaching per month (30 minutes weekly or 1 hour biweekly)
- Ongoing access to your coach throughout the month
- 1 hour of follow-up work between coaching sessions
- 1 in-person or virtual half-day workshop focused on an area of your team’s choosing
- Connections, resources, and networking among Wisconsin and national TPS teams
- $750 per month, 5-month minimum commitment required
