OpenCSD Journal Club
Interested in Open Science but not sure where to start? Join our OpenCSD Journal Club and learn with us!

What is Open Science?
Open science refers to a collection of research practices aimed at increasing accessibility and transparency of science. These practices can be incorporated at all stages of scientific research and may include preregistering hypotheses, sharing study materials (e.g., code, data), and ensuring access to published articles, among others.

A recent survey of scientists in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) found generally low use of open science practices in the field but a strong desire to learn more to engage in these practices in the future (El Amin et al., 2022).

What is OpenCSD?
OpenCSD is a volunteer collective of researchers, clinicians, students, and educators in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) aspiring to educate others and foster the use of open science practices within our field.

How will the OpenCSD Journal Club work?
The OpenCSD Journal Club will be an online journal club registered with ReproducibiliTea. ReproducibiliTea has been helping researchers create Open Science journal clubs since 2018 and now has over 100 (!) affiliated clubs across the globe. Based on ReproducibiliTea's suggested readings, we will create a 12-session journal club that will run once a month from January-December 2023. The journal club will be led by Mariam El Amin (University of Georgia) and Elaine Kearney (Queensland University of Technology).

OK I'm in, what's next?
We are in the planning stages of setting up the OpenCSD Journal Club and are still working out some of the finer details. In the meantime, it would be really helpful for us to gauge interest if you could submit your email below. We will be in touch with more specific details in early 2023.
