Summer Strings Zoom!
Register for Lincoln-Way Youth Strings "Summer Strings Zoom"

The Lincoln-Way Youth Strings (LWYS) Youth Orchestra program has served our community for over 20 years. This year our annual Lincoln-Way Youth Strings Summer Strings Camp will be over Zoom, and is open to all string students in the area. The LWYS program serves students from L-W Youth Strings, Frankfort 157C, Summit Hill, New Lenox, Manhattan, Joliet, Orland Park, Lockport, Peotone, and more. SPREAD THE WORD!

The Summer Strings program emphasizes the fundamentals and advancing technical skills of playing a string instrument while exploring the world of traditional and alternative string music. LWYS summer camp students will be exposed to playing different musical styles, and will learn about conducting, how string instruments are made, and the science of sound on a string instrument.

Students who attend Summer Strings will have an opportunity to design our LWYS Summer Strings Logo. I hope to make this into a t-shirt, with a goal of being available for purchase/delivery online and worn for our Zoom performance on Thursday evening June 25th. Disclaimer: This may or may not be able to happen but I’m working on it!

We traditionally do an outdoor “Ravinia Festival” style performance. This year you are more than welcome to do the same – just in our own backyards or outside areas - feel free to ham it up for our kids with lawn chairs, blankets, and a picnic dinner to enjoy during our visual online performance!

LWYS Summer Strings will take place for two weeks beginning on Monday, June 15 and continuing through Thursday, June 25th, giving students a break from e-learning/Zooming/Googling/Teaming/etc. Students attend four days each week for an hour. Without the needed time for pick-up/drop-off, set-up, tear down, passing out music, etc. having an hour of playing time will come very close to the playing time students receive during our traditional camp. Our times this summer are as follows:

9:30 - 10:30 Beginners: Completed 1st year of LWYS/school orchestra and/or private lessons
10:30-11:30 Intermediate: Completed 2nd year of LWYS/school orchestra and/or private lessons
11:30-12:30 Advanced: Completed 3+ years of Youth Strings/school orch and/or private lessons

Once you register via the Google Form and payment is received, Zoom links will be sent to you along with pdf’s of the music the week before camp. A camp calendar will also be emailed and posted on the LWYS website.

The tuition for the program will be $65.00 per child, approximately only $8 per class! L-W High School students are free. Please complete the online registration form, and mail payment by check to the address given on the registration form by June 8, 2020.  If you are new to the program, an information/emergency/internet release form needs to be mailed in as well and can be found online at our website www.lwyouthstrings.com.

I look forward to the exciting music learning planned for this summer. The schedule below includes Summer Strings dates, rehearsals, and performance times. This information can also be found online at www.lwyouthstrings.com . If you have any questions regarding this program, please contact me at your convenience at youthstrings@lw210.org OR lwyouthstrings@gmail.com.  See you this summer!

Sincerely,

Michelle Freeland
