Liberating Theologies group
Liberating Theologies group: November 2021 and into 2022.

Our first meeting will be on Thursday 18 November 1130h–13h. We read texts of liberation together to see how to apply. Please complete this form if you're interested in coming along. If using this form doesn't suit you, please just email Jeremy Clines j.clines@sheffield.ac.uk instead.

The Liberating Theologies group is open to people from the local area and the universities to explore theology together. It will re-commence in November 2021 (approximately every three weeks, the first 3 dates being 18 Nov, 09 Dec 2021 and 20 Jan 2022). It's not necessary to come to every meeting to join the group.

Our first meeting will look at eco-liberation and the Climate Crisis. The group will then jointly decide what other topics to cover.

We have previously considered some or all of the following liberating theologies: black, child, disability, ecological, feminist,, indigenous, LGBT+, post-colonial, South Asian, womanist theologies. We can readily look at other areas (previously we have looked at visually impaired, Roma and mental health theologies too).

The group process, to begin with will be happen by reading or viewing, in advance, videos, articles or chapters about a particular perspective. Then we will discuss these in a group setting, and relate what we have read to our own lives and practice. We like to encourage everyone to have read at least one thing.

Please express your interest via this web-form.

We expect the group will run for 75 minutes to 90 minutes and its fine to bring sandwiches and we will serve tea and coffee and herbal things and have plant milk and cows' milk.

You can follow the group on Twitter: https://twitter.com/LiberatingTheol

We will meet at the University of Sheffield Octagon Centre which is a 5 minute walk from the University Tram Stop and 200m from the 51 / 52 buses (Western Bank or Children's Hospital) and 100m from the 6 / 120 buses (Glossop Rd).

Thank you!

Anesia Nascimento De Jesus Cook (Vicar St Peter and St Oswald) and Jeremy Clines (Anglican Chaplain, University of Sheffield)
