Relationships, Sex and Health Education Parent Questionnaire 2020
In July 2019, The Department for Education released a document changing the previous Sex and Relationship (SRE) guidance to the new Relationships, Sex and Health guidance (RSHE).

Relationships, Sex and Health Education is lifelong learning about physical, sexual, moral and emotional development. It is about the understanding of the importance of stable and loving relationships, respect, love and care for family life. It involves acquiring information, developing skills and forming positive beliefs, values and attitudes.

By law primary schools are required to teach relationships and health education, alongside national curriculum science and within the context of safeguarding. At Avenue Primary School we acknowledge that parents/carers are a child’s first and most effective teacher and that is why we believe it is essential that our parents are part of the planning process and fully informed.

We are therefore asking all parents from Nursery to Year 6 to take part in this questionnaire in order to give us an accurate picture of your opinions around RSHE and how we can implement it in the most effective way possible for our children. The questionnaire will be closed on 13th November 2020.

Understanding our Draft Policy
In January 2020, after consultation with a wide range of faith groups, councillors, parents, pupils and education stakeholders (Refer to page 2 of our policy for a full breakdown), Newham released a draft RSHE Policy for Primary Schools to base their own policies on. We used this model policy as the basis to create our own.
