Juvenile defenders will gain the knowledge and skills to effectively advocate for youth charged with sexual offenses and address issues unique to a juvenile sex case including:
• Strategies for interviewing youth clients charged in sex cases;
• Conducting effective investigation and seeking discovery;
• Developing effective defense theories in juvenile sex cases;
• Identifying and addressing special evidentiary and strategic issues associated with juvenile sex cases including youth complaining witnesses; and
• Raising mitigating factors and planning for disposition in a juvenile sex case, consistent with the client’s stated interests.
