IMP Composition Competition 2019
The IMP is sponsoring a composition competition to write a new work for the Sax Quartet. This competition is open to IMP members from any year group, but you may notice that the brief below links to the Year 9 & Year 11 music curriculum. There is a limit of one entry per student. Current members of Sax Quartet are ineligible to apply.
Brief:
The composition must be your own work
The work should be between one and two minutes long
The work should include stylistic elements from a baroque or classical genre
You must score for four parts: Alto Sax, Alto Sax, Tenor Sax, Baritone Sax
You should ensure that your composition is stylistically appropriate for saxophones
Due Date:
Entries are due by the end of Week 3, Term 4 (5pm, Friday 1 November 2019). Late or incomplete entries will not be accepted.
NB When you enter, you will need to provide an open-access link to an online folder (eg Google Drive or Dropbox) where you will provide your score. Score must be provided in Musescore (.mcz) or Music XML (.xml) format.
Judging and Prize:
The IMP is offering a $100 prize to the winning entry, along with everlasting fame and glory, and a public performance of the new work.
At least two finalists will be selected to workshop their composition with the Sax Ensemble and staff in Term 4 (date tbc). The final winner will be announced by Week 6 of Term 4.
The judges will be Mr Manchester, Ms Propsting, and Ms Unsen.
