Seating Auditions for 2019/20 Season
Auditions will be held at the Cape Conservatory's Barnstable campus (2235 Iyannough Road, West Barnstable, 508-362-2772.)

Audition requirements:

Cape Youth Orchestra (8th-12th)- Conductor- Mark Miller
All instruments: A prepared solo or etude that shows the students best ability and brief sight reading    
Strings: Three-octave scales in keys through three sharps and three flats (C, F, Bb, Eb, D, A)
Winds: (Oboe, Flute, Clarinet, Bassoon, Trumpet, Horn): Major scales through three sharps and flats and chromatic scale.
Timpani:  solo piece or etude on timpani that demonstrates ability to tune timpani to given interval.
      --Previous CYO members still need to audition for placement within group, but will be automatically accepted into CYO.


Repertory Strings (5th-8th)–Instructor- David Gable
A prepared solo that shows the students' best ability
Two-octave scales in keys through three flats and three sharps (C, F, Bb, Eb, D, A)
Sight reading

Repertory Winds- Instructor: Betsy Doriss
A prepared solo that shows the students' best ability
One-octave scales in keys through three flats and three sharps (C, F, Bb, Eb, D, A)  
Chromatic scale of at least one octave
Sight reading


Debut Strings (3rd-5th)– Instructor- David Gable
A prepared solo that shows the students' best ability
One octave major scales in G, D or A major for violins and C, G, or D for cellos;
Simple sight reading  

Primary strings (K-3rd) - Instructro- David Gable
no audition required, please call Cape Conservatory to sign up!


*Exceptions to grade-level recommendations made on case-by-case basis pending on skill level.
**Sight reading is an important assessment tool for our faculty, but don't be afraid!
***Tuition to CYO program waived for students signed up for lessons at Cape Conservatory.
