WHAT ARE AUDITIONS LIKE?
Let's get the scary part out of the way! Auditions shouldn't be scary! We run it like a class. We teach, you do, we watch. You can ask questions, we rotate partners, you will never have to do it alone. Auditions are important for you to also see if WE are a good fit for YOU. This process works both ways. The "class" will be progressive starting from advanced beginner level and working its way up to advanced. We do this because this is ONE audition for THREE different teams. You audition once and then we place you on the team that we think matches your appropriate level. Feel better now!? Hopefully :)
WHO WE ARE?
J&L Dance Studio, run by Jenna & Luis, is an all-inclusive, diverse, strong group of all ages and backgrounds training hard to be well-rounded humans and dancers. We strive as a team to improve our dancing, both on stage and in social dancing, while also making an impact in our community to unite love with dance. Since beginning our partnership in 2013, we have become well-known in our community and beyond for emphasizing the power of fundamentals. We believe in a positive, drama-free, family-like environment with everyone working together to improve themselves as individuals and as a team. We are very excited to continue growing our family.
WHO is this team for? Level?
We are looking for fun-loving, passionate dancers of any age, background, and skill level. Your commitment, passion, grit, and determination are required. This is a leveled program that is designed to train you up from a beginner with little to no experience to a professional dance level, if you choose. NOTE: We are planning to cap upper level teams at MAX 6 couples. The three different teams differ in time commitment, expectations and goals:

Advanced Beginner Team: for those who are at an advanced beginner level, may not have any previous performance experience OR for those who just want to learn in a team environment for fun. Can commit at least 1 hour of practice time outside of weekly rehearsal. Comfortable learning at a slower pace, able to take feedback, but needs time to make adjustments.

Intermediate Team: for those who are at an intermediate level, have some previous performance experience, and can commit at least an additional 1.5 hours of practice time outside of weekly rehearsal. Comfortable learning at a quicker pace and able to take feedback, but may need a few repetitions to make adjustments. 

Advanced Team: for those who are at an advanced level and have lots of performance experience. Can commit to at least 2 additional hours of practice time outside of weekly rehearsal. Comfortable learning at a quicker pace and able to take feedback and make adjustments quickly. Is able to examine themself in comparison to others and make adjustments to better themself as an individual.
WHEN will we rehearse?
Rehearsals will take place weekly for 1 hour each week: 
  • Advanced Beginner Team: Tuesdays, 8-9pm - J&L Choreo directed by Jacqueline & Luis
  • Intermediate Team: Wednesdays, 8-9pm - J&L Choreo directed by Jenna & Luis
  • Advanced Team: Wednesdays, 9-10pm - J&L  Choreo directed by Jenna & Luis
It will be encouraged to take Level 1 Bachata class from 6-7pm (FREE) and Level 2 from 7-8pm (1/2 off). It is also encouraged to meet with team members in the basement 7-8pm to work on whatever was learned weeks prior, MANDATORY IF YOU MISSED REHEARSAL! Advanced Beginner Team is a 8 month commitment. Intermediate & Advanced Teams will run for the full year. It is our hope that team members will stay consistent and continue to work and grow together. 

Auditions will be Wednesday, September 13th. First rehearsals will be October 4th for training team & September 20th for Esfuerzo & Advanced.
WHERE will we rehearse?
Rehearsals will happen at J&L Dance studio in Malden and must be in person (unless COVID related circumstance)
HOW will we perform?
The goal for each team, when team members are able and willing to perform:
  • Advanced Beginner Team: locally only (no congresses/festivals) - After initial two months of training members will "audition" for performance track vs. training track
  • Intermediate Team: Both locally and traveling
  • Advanced Team: Both locally and traveling
HOW MUCH will it cost?
Team Fee is:
  • Advanced Beginner Team: $85/month
  • Intermediate Team: $85/month
  • Advanced Team: $85/month
Dues are to be paid by the 15th of each month. Dues will be collected via auto pay in our studio Acuity system! Costume & shoes will be separate.
