Goal
To create a network of early career Elementary Teachers committed to the profession, supported and mentored by experienced colleagues, and able to bring leadership to schools in engaging students, families, and communities in literacy learning.
Objective
After attending SJAWP’s Family Literacy ISI 2020, participants will create (or expand) a family literacy program for their school.

June 6, 10:00 am - 3:00 pm Orientation @ San Jose State University
July 27-31, 2020, 9:15 am - 2:45 pm @ San Jose State University
Who can apply?
Open to teachers in grades K-5 who are in the 1st to 5th years of their teaching careers
Applications are due by March 29, 2020. Limited to 5 spots, with the possibility of 2-3 more to be drawn from a prioritized wait list. Finalists will be notified April 13, 2020. Accepted participants will gather school site info between April and the end of the school year. An orientation will be held from 10:00am - 3:00pm at San Jose State University on Saturday June 6, 2020.
Benefits of the program:
Participants will receive professional development and training on parent engagement and family literacy programs
$500 teacher stipend
$500 to school site for resources to support family literacy program
Upon completion of the Family Literacy ISI, participants are eligible to register for up to 3 units of full semester, graduate level credit for $150 per unit
2 follow-up support meetings with Family Literacy ISI Co-Directors
