Saskatoon Pride is accepting nominations for individuals or groups to be honoured with a Grand Marshal title for 2024 and to be offered a featured position in the the Saskatoon Pride Parade. Nominations are open until May 15 only.
Those nominated can be living or deceased (in memoriam), 2SLGBTQIA+, or allies and of any age.
Nominees will have dedicated their time and energy to help create the vision of Saskatoon Pride which is:
An inclusive, safe, equitable, sustainable community that values, celebrates, and supports the lives of 2 Spirit, LGBTQ+ and all gender- and sexually-diverse people and their families, regardless of gender expression or identity.
and through their example inspiring others to do the same. Activism is certainly one criteria to consider. So is service to the community in public or not-so-public ways. Achievement and other honours are also criteria to consider. So is quiet support and kindness toward those whose needs may be more complex that our own. Heroism reveals itself in many ways, as in the 2024 Festival theme "One Light—Many Colours." The hope is that through the nominations process Saskatoon Pride's Grand Marshal selections—and there could be several as there were in 2023—will be as fabulous as the colours on the flags of Pride and as inspiring as the strength that has brought us to this pivotal point in our history and struggle. Who do you know who is or has been a 2 Spirit or Queer hero or a courageous ally over the span of time? Nominate them, please.
- Nominations will be initially subject to a blind review and assessment by the Parade Values Review Committee before being submitted to the board and seasonal staff of Saskatoon Pride for a decision.
- Each successful individuals and/or group will be contacted by Saskatoon Pride to ensure their consent.
- Parade Grand Marshals will be invited to participate in the Pride Parade along with their immediate family of choice.
- Grand Marshals should consent to a short photo shoot with a photographer chosen by Saskatoon Pride and to a short video interview prior to June 8 if possible.
