2024-2025 NM Local News Fellowships & Internships Application for Newsrooms
The University of New Mexico Department of Communication & Journalism, working in collaboration with NMSU and ENMU, seeks newsrooms to host full-time local news fellows and part-time summer news interns.

The FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM recruits host newsrooms and matches them with recent graduates for a 12-month, full-time, paid fellowship running from Summer 2024 to Summer 2025.

The INTERNSHIP PROGRAM recruits host newsrooms and matches them with current students for an 8-week summer paid internship running from June to August 2023.

This application serves both programs. The deadline is Monday, April 8, 2024.

The host newsroom agrees to abide by the terms of the fellowship/internship program. If selected, your newsroom will sign an agreement with the fellow/intern and with our program manager. The agreement will spell out the terms of the arrangement and your news organization will agree to serve as a UNM vendor in order to receive the grant money allocated to your newsroom. (Also, in the case of internships for credit, the school awarding credit would be a party to this agreement, to assure their educational goals are attained.) You will agree to guide your trainee and provide ongoing feedback and growth opportunities. You will also agree to remain responsive to the program manager who monitors the program, and to provide progress reports as requested. *
