At the meeting, two individuals will be awarded for their outstanding contributions to mentorship and leadership over the past year:

  1. CIRTN-R2FIC Mentorship Award: Awarded to a PI from the network who has demonstrated exemplary trainee mentorship and/or outstanding contributions to the Network. The selected PI will have their travel and accommodation costs for the meeting covered, and will deliver a mentorship lecture at the CIRTN-R2FIC National Meeting.

  2. CIRTN-R2FIC Leadership Award: Awarded to a member of the CIRTN-R2FIC network who is not a PI (eg. graduate student, postdoctoral fellow, research associate, technical staff) who has demonstrated exemplary leadership within the Network and in their own lab. The recipient will receive an honorarium, a certificate for their CV, and be recognized during the CIRTN-R2FIC National Meeting.

Requirements: The nominee should have a track record of exemplary mentorship and leadership. For example, they should:
  • Foster a supportive research environment
  • Support mentees/peers in developing skills necessary for pursuing their career paths
  • Encourage the intellectual, creative, and professional growth of mentees/peers
  • Facilitate mentee/peer opportunities and support their successes (eg. through publications, research talks, leadership roles, public outreach)
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusivity in the research community

Eligibility: There is no limit to the number of nominations a CIRTN-R2FIC member can submit.
  • Both the nominee and the nominator must be CIRTN-R2FIC members
  • The nominator does not need to attend the CIRTN-R2FIC National meeting in order to submit nominations
  • Nominations should be from a single individual. Multiple nominations for the same nominee will be considered together in the selection process.
  • Non-PIs are permitted to nominate themselves for the Leadership Award
  • PIs are not permitted to nominate themselves for the Mentorship Award
  • Nominees cannot serve on the selection committee.

Deadline: The deadline for submitting nominations is September 18, 2023 at 11:59 PM PT.
