Building off our great session at FCCP's 40th Anniversary Convening, Measuring What Matters: Part 2 is scheduled to take place on September 21 from 3-4 pm ET | 12-1 pm PT ! This program opportunity will involve a discussion with funders, researchers, and organizing groups centered on an alternative framework for measuring impact in civic engagement practice, developed through the Democracy & Power Innovation Fund (DPI) Organizing Lab.
The civic engagement industry traditionally uses accountability "metrics" that center on discrete inputs (doors knocked; calls made) and election outcomes (who won?) to determine whether an organization or campaign is successful. However, what actually matters to a community’s ability to win change is its ability to operate collectively to build and wield power that can impact policy, electoral and/or ideological outcomes.
This session will examine a new method for understanding, measuring, and evaluating the work that organizing groups do to build that collective multiracial power.
Our panel includes:
- Julie Fernandes, Associate Director, Democracy, Rockefeller Family Fund
- Elizabeth McKenna, Assistant Professor of Public Policy, Harvard University
- Doran Schrantz, Executive Director, ISAIAH & Faith in Minnesota
- Eddie Carmona, Director of Campaigns, PICO California
