Bystander Intervention for Racial Justice Training
Whether it be an incident taking place on the street, in the workplace, or at home, our individual commitment to racial equity requires standing up to inter-personal racism when we witness it. This can feel nerve-wracking, if not downright impossible for many of us until we learn to work through our fight, flight or freeze responses. In this training, participants will have many opportunities to explore intervention strategies through a variety of scenarios.

Participants will observe their default nervous system responses and learn to use those responses as assets when disrupting racist behavior in both the public and private spheres. Role play is an effective tool because the nervous system responds in the same ways it would when activated on the street or at a family gathering when someone expresses harmful behavior. Practicing using our body's natural responses when interrupting injustice provides valuable muscle memory, making it easier and more likely  that we will advocate for the rights of others when we witness racial injustice in real life.

While not required, it is recommended that participants complete an "Unpacking Racism" training prior to registering for this practice-based training.

This training is for community leaders, educators, parents, and anyone who wishes to sharpen and expand on their abilities to stand up to inter-personal acts of racism and advocate for better treatment for self and others. Certificates of completion will be issued to educators receiving professional development credit.
