The future of soil spectroscopy workshop application

Woodwell Climate Research Center and the USDA NIFA Food and Agriculture Cyber-informatics Tools Coordinated Innovation Network Soil Spectroscopy for the Global Good cordially invites you to apply to attend a two-day visioning workshop following the annual Tri-Societies (Agronomy, Crop and Soil Science Societies of America) meeting in St. Louis, Missouri, USA.

Dates: Nov 2-3, 2023

Location: Drury Inn and Suites St. Louis Convention Center

Workshop size: ~30 participants

Cost: free

In this workshop we will build a collective picture of the future of soil spectroscopy. Through a set of guided activities we will address three key questions over a two-day workshop:

  • Where is the field of soil spectroscopy going?
  • How can we leverage integrated databases/libraries like Open Soil Spectral Library to get there?
  • What kind of metadata do we need to record to compare instruments?

IMPORTANT LOGISTICS: The Soil Spectroscopy for the Global Good Network will cover registration fees for all participants and travel costs, up to a certain amount for most participants. Since we do not have an unlimited budget, we want to make sure that money isn't a barrier to attending. We also want to keep the workshop to a size that facilitates good conversations. As such please answer the following questions so we can best determine need and create a balanced group (career stage/gender/institution type).

Application deadline: June 5, 2023
Acceptance decisions: June 9, 2023

For more information on the workshop content please contact Kathe Todd-Brown (kathe.toddbrown@essie.ufl.edu). For more information on logistics, please contact Jonathan Sanderman (jsanderman@woodwellclimate.org)
