More three thousands students from 31 (update: now 45!) different universities nationwide are withholding their second semester rent due to the unacceptable mistreatment we have been forced to endure. Staff were well aware that we would receive minimal on-campus study, however were instructed to keep this quiet in order to prevent monetary losses from extortionate accommodation fees - at our expense. In the entire HISTORY of UK uni rent strikes, no legal action has been taken due to the University's need to not taint their public image and reduce future student numbers (and therefore, the university's bank balance).
Research by the National Union for Students (NUS) shows that the average rent for student accommodation accounted for 73% of the student loan in 2018. In 2012 it was 58%.
Why should we continue to pay more and more, for less and less?
Just like Manchester, we too have the power to reduce this by simply refusing to stay quiet and complacent.
Any details received from this form will ONLY be accessible by the organisers of this rent strike.
