Aksarben Curling is exploring options to open its own dedicated curling facility, which would provide greatly expanded programming options and high quality curling ice. Current plans call for a 4-sheet facility designed with the option to expand sheets in the future.

We're calling on Aksarben members (and folks who haven't curled with us for a while) to share their input to help inform some items concerning facility design, your anticipated league and bonspiel participation, and potential pricing. We anticipate surveying members on other issues as they arise throughout the course of this project.

COST PER GAME

We're developing multi-year operating budgets to examine what is financially feasible for a new facility. We want to balance keeping curling accessible and affordable, while also ensuring that membership and league fees cover the costs of operations, building maintenance, and paying down loans (which we will very likely have).

What is the *maximum* you would be willing to pay on a per game basis for leagues on dedicated ice? (this would be in addition to an annual membership fee)

BONSPIELS

Having our own dedicated facility would permit us to host more tournaments throughout the year. That includes competitive events, social fun-spiels, and new events (eg, a 5-and-under for newer curlers, a women’s tournament, a youth tournament). Tournament prices range from $40-$50 for a mini-spiel (shorter and/or fewer games) to $80-$100 (more games, food and drinks provided). Typical bonspiels include a 3-game guarantee.

FACILITY DESIGN

BAR

Many dedicated curling facilities have a bar or some sort of serving station for events. For adult beverages, we have two options: we either have a bar where we sell beer/alcohol or people could bring their own. Your response here will help us determine whether we should budget for bar revenue and expenses.
