The Coalition for Gender Equality in the European Union (EU) Accession Process (EQUAPRO) is an informal coalition of women’s rights organizations (WCSOs) in the Western Balkans (WB), which is advocating to improve attention to gender equality in the EU Accession process and to include more women and WCSOs in EU Accession-related political dialogues, policy processes, and as beneficiaries of EU external financing.

Mission

Considering that gender equality is a fundamental value of the EU, we seek to improve the accountability of the EU, governments and institutions in implementing commitments to gender equality and women’s rights during the EU Accession process.

Background

Following more than three decades of informal cooperation and networking among WCSOs in the WB, often supported by the Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation, the Coalition was formed as part of the Action “Furthering Gender Equality through the EU Accession Process“, which seeks to enhance regional cooperation among WCSOs, establish research and gender analyses for informing policies, undertake evidence-based advocacy and monitor reforms related to EU Accession, towards furthering gender equality in the WB through the EU Accession Process. This Action is co-funded by the EU and Sweden.

What does being a member of the EQUAPRO Coalition mean?

EQUAPRO is an informal coalition of WCSOs in the WB, which comes together to advocate for improved attention to gender equality in the EU Accession process and to include more women and WCSOs in EU Accession-related political dialogues, policy processes, and as beneficiaries of EU external financing. Being a member of the Coalition does not mean that your organization must join all advocacy efforts; you can choose which advocacy initiatives you want to support. All members are consulted when the Coalition undertakes advocacy initiatives, so that members have the opportunity to give their opinions. Membership is free and open to all non-governmental and civil society organizations committed to the EQUAPRO mission and that agree to the EQUAPRO Code of Conduct.
