The Blue Water Task Force (BWTF) is the Surfrider Foundation’s volunteer-run, water testing, education and advocacy program. We currently test water for fecal indicator bacteria (FIB) at 6 beach locations (see Figure 1 below).
In an effort to grow and optimize our program, we are surveying our membership to see which beach locations they'd like to see us test regularly. After we consider your opinions, we'll let everyone know which beaches they can expect weekly water quality information for! Thank you for your time and opinions!
More about BWTF:
The San Mateo Chapter participates in the BWTF program to alert citizens and officials in our community about water quality problems. We identify areas and incidents of beach and coastal water pollution, raise public awareness of these issues, and work collaboratively with local stakeholders to find and implement solutions.
The San Mateo Chapter conducts water testing and provides data to improve the public’s knowledge of the safety of our coastal creeks and beach water. BWTF water testing programs measure bacteria levels at both beaches and upstream in their watersheds, then compare them to federal water quality standards established by the EPA to protect public health in recreational waters.
