2024 Bayard Rustin Award

The Michigan Tech chapter of National Society of Black Engineers presents the Bayard Rustin Award annually at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Banquet.

Bayard Rustin was an influential advisor to civil-rights leaders, doing much of the work behind the scenes. He worked alongside Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to organize the Freedom Rides and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. In 2013, Rustin was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

The Bayard Rustin Award is presented to a member of the Michigan Tech community that is a major asset to students, faculty, and staff. They frequently provide major support behind the scenes and exhibit qualities of being a servant leader.

Use the form below to nominate an MTU faculty or staff member for the 2024 Bayard Rustin Award.

Nominations are due by December 1, 2023.

This year’s award will be presented at the 35th Annual MLK Celebration on January 15, 2024.
