Harvey Mudd College (“HMC”) looks forward to welcoming you to campus to begin or resume your studies. In anticipation of your return, we want to call your attention to certain information concerning COVID-19 and certain policies related to COVID-19 that will apply to all students during the 2021-22 academic year.
Risks Associated with COVID-19
COVID-19 is a highly contagious, life-threatening disease declared by the World Health Organization to be a global pandemic. Though we are taking preventative measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19, we cannot guarantee you will not be exposed to or contract COVID-19, or other infectious diseases, by being on campus and/or engaging in HMC programs and activities.
Adherence to Health and Safety Requirements
Many of the measures that we are taking to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission require your affirmative participation. By way of example, subject to exceptions for medical reasons or sincerely held religious beliefs, all students must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and the seasonal flu, and provide proof of vaccination satisfactory to HMC.(See Note 1) Students are also required to adhere to all HMC COVID-19 health and safety protocols and procedures, including those related to social distancing, face coverings, sanitizing and disinfection practices, the prohibition against attending class, working or participating in HMC programs and activities if symptomatic or sick, the requirement to immediately notify the Dean of Students if a student test positive or is diagnosed with COVID-19, to isolate or quarantine when required, and restrictions that may be imposed on the ability to invite guests to be present in residence halls (including Arrow Vista Apartments) or on campus in general. These rules, protocols and procedures, which may change from time to time, will be strictly enforced, and non-adherence may result in corrective action or the imposition of discipline up to and including suspension or expulsion. Information related to HMC's most current COVID-19 protocols and procedures can be found on the Stay Safe at Mudd website at
https://www.hmc.edu/coronavirus-information/stay-safe-at-mudd/.
(Note 1) Proof that a student has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 must be submitted no later than July 1, 2021, and proof that a student has received a seasonal flu shot must be submitted prior to September 30, 2021 on the Student Health Services portal. Students who for medical reasons or due to sincerely held religious beliefs seek an exemption from the COVID-19 and/or seasonal flu vaccination requirement should contact the Division of Student Affairs at
Dean_of_Students@hmc.edu. Applications for exemptions must be submitted no later than July 1, 2021.
Potential Modifications to Learning Environment
We recognize that you desire certainty concerning the manner in which instruction, support services, and extracurricular activities will be provided. Unfortunately, we cannot provide assurances or guarantees. Moreover, of necessity, we reserve the right to modify or suspend campus operations, and/or to transition from in-person instruction with hybrid modalities to remote instruction only, if we believe it necessary to do so in the interest of the health and safety of the HMC Community. Any options for remote study that are subsequently developed will require enrollment at the level of a full course load and will carry requirements that may include a commitment to participate in synchronous course elements and advisor(s) approval. Tuition and fees have been set and will apply regardless of the method of instruction, including in the event instruction occurs remotely or in alternative formats for any part of the academic year. Tuition and fees will not be discounted or refunded regardless of the mode of instruction, the inability to access college facilities, or any disruption to or cancellation of activities, events, services or programs during the academic year due to the COVID-19 pandemic or similar exigent circumstances.
