O Kalani OCC - Sunday Morning Guest Paddler Sign-up
Please fill in this form to let us know you'd like to join O Kalani's Sunday morning outrigger practice as a guest.

**Please sign up by the Thursday evening prior to the following Sunday practice so we can be sure to have necessary support. As a guest, complete and submit this form each time you plan to attend.**

Sunday mornings are low-key paddling sessions at O Kalani, mainly focused on teaching proper technique. Beginners and guests are welcome to participate and try outrigger paddling three times before becoming a member of O Kalani. What to expect and how to prepare:
  1. A session runs around 1.5 hours. Make sure you’ve eaten well beforehand.
  2. Wear clothes that are suitable for getting wet. Avoid cotton. Wear water shoes, flip flops, or go barefoot. Additionally, you might want a hat, sunglasses, water, and an energy bar. After practice, bring a towel and a change of clothes.
  3. Bring a full water bottle. Drinking water and sunscreen are a must.
  4. Swimming ability is encouraged but not required. If you cannot swim or do not feel comfortable in open waters, please wear a non-inflatable (foam) PFD vest. We have some at the site for borrowing.
  5. We do not intend to go swimming but canoes can and do huli (flip over) so do not bring anything of value as it could be lost to the bay. Keys and extra clothes can be left at the site which is locked.

As outrigger paddling is an open water sport, O Kalani strongly encourages all members develop a baseline swimming ability. If you do not pass the O Kalani swim test (e.g., are an intermediate swimmer as outlined below), a vest PFD is mandatory when you are paddling outrigger canoe. If you wish to further develop your swimming ability, please ask a coach or board member; O Kalani has members with ties to local swimming groups who welcome paddlers learning to swim.
