Internet Usage Policy & Consent Form
Access to the Internet enables students to explore thousands of libraries, databases and bulletin boards throughout the world via the Internet.  This access is provided for students to conduct research and communicate with others.  Access is a privilege - not a right; and access entails responsibility.

Students are expected to follow all guidelines stated below as well as those given verbally by a teacher or other staff.

Within reason, freedom of speech and access to information will be honored.  During school, teachers will guide students towards appropriate materials.  Since there are multiple computers for student access, the teaching staff cannot monitor all the information a student is accessing.  Families should be warned that some material accessible via the internet might contain items that are inappropriate, inaccurate or potentially offensive to some people.  While it is the school's intent to make Internet access available to further educational goals and objectives, students may find ways to access other materials as well.  St. A believes that the benefits to students from access to the Internet, in the form of learning opportunities and information resources, outweigh any disadvantages.  Ultimately, parents and guardians of students are responsible for setting and conveying the standards that their children should follow when using media and information sources.

Students are responsible for good behavior on the Internet just as they are in a classroom or any school setting.  Any actions that might harm the computer equipment, software, data, another user, the Internet, or that show disregard will NOT be tolerated.  General school rules for behavior and communications apply.

This policy applies to all school-owned devices as well as ANY electronic device used to access the Internet through the school's network.  There is no expectation of privacy for anyone accessing the school's network whether they use a school-issued device or their personal device.
