The Crop Share Co-op is an online platform where local farms and backyard growers can sell shares of what they grow before they grow it. This can include fruits, vegetables, eggs, milk, meat, live plants, live animals, and processed foods. It works like kickstarter so new growers can get capital to buy supplies and equipment.

Growers can offer lots of options and only grow what their customers want. There is no waste because all of the food is pre-sold. Growers are required to be transparent about their growing practices and provide their customers with regular updates (with photos). Members can collaborate by sharing information and resources. It's also cooperatively owned so members democratically control how it evolves and receive a portion of the profits.

Would you purchase shares of crops before they are grown? Why or why not? How much might you spend in one month?
Would you sell shares of crops that you grow? Why or why not? What types of crops and how much might you sell in one month?
Would you like to participate in discussions with other customers and growers? What would you like to discuss? Would you log on to our website to participate in discussion forums or is there another platform you would rather use like Slack or Facebook?
One goal of this platform is to encourage customers to become growers themselves. We would need to have a thorough application process and provide some coaching and accountability. Think of it as a backyard farm business accelerator. To cover the costs we need to charge sign-up and transaction fees. Food typically has a 20-50% markup wholesale to retail. What do you think is fair for sign-up fees and transaction fees on this platform?
Would you like to join Crop Share Co-op? What about the idea is most exciting to you? What gives you hesitation? What would make you more excited to join?
