What is an "Idea Worth Spreading?"
We look for Ideas Worth Spreading, but what does that even mean? It can actually be one of two things:
  • Something that’s new and surprising; an idea or invention that the audience has never heard about.
  • A great basic idea (that your audience has maybe already heard) with a compelling new argument behind it that challenges beliefs and perspectives.
In other words, an idea isn’t just a story or a list of facts. A good idea takes certain evidence or observations and draws a larger conclusion. A good idea also inspires the audience to take action, or think in new ways.

Content Guidelines:
TEDx offers speakers a platform to provide information directly to millions of people around the world. It’s a responsibility we take seriously. First and foremost, that information has to be accurate at the time of publication.

As stewards of ideas worth spreading, we bear the responsibility of maintaining TED’s reputation as a forum for sharing ideas that matter and upholding our audience’s trust. Curation is at the heart of everything we do--and sometimes that means determining that an idea is not fit for the TEDx stage.

We put together a few content guidelines to help you plan your TEDx talk. Our intention is not to be directive, but to provide the community with a practical set of standards that ensure every audience member can trust the ideas they’re hearing. It’s inherently difficult to give hard and fast rules in this area. We’re learning as we go so these guidelines may change over time as we run into new challenges. In this way, we can all preserve the integrity and value of our TEDx stage in Washington DC:

Guideline 1: No commercial agendas or blatant self-promotion
Guideline 2: No political agendas or inflammatory rhetoric
Guideline 3: No religious agendas
Guideline 4: No bad science and no pseudoscience

Fact-checking is a non-negotiable. In order to be a part of our event, you must be willing to meet our fact-checking standards and modify your script, if necessary. All speakers are REQUIRED to submit a written script  that includes a list of citations and references to any claims made in the talk.
