Application for "Teachers on the Estuary: Restoring Rocky Shores"
Are you eager to bring authentic, local science and phenomena to your classroom? Do you love the water and wonder how to share that love with your students, while meeting standards? Is your school near the San Francisco Bay shoreline? If you answered yes to any of those questions, we hope you will apply!

San Francisco State University Estuary & Ocean Science Center, Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, and NOAA's National Estuarine Research Reserve (NERR) are excited to announce a workshop that will engage local educators with active scientific research. Teachers will collect, analyze, and interpret data from San Francisco Bay, and make connections with NGSS and existing lessons. Scientists will present and answer questions about on-going research into rocky shoreline habitats in the San Francisco Bay and how to improve coastal resilience to climate change.

AUDIENCE: Upper Elementary and Middle School Science Teachers
DATES: June 17-19, 2020
LOCATION: Estuary & Ocean Science Center, San Francisco State University Romberg Tiburon Campus, Tiburon CA. Field trips on the bay and along the rocky shoreline will depart from near Tiburon.
STIPEND: $300 stipend provided for attending all three days

Spaces are limited and applications are reviewed as they arrive. Preference given to teams of teachers from the same school and teachers serving high-need students in Marin County.

Questions should be directed to Sarah D. Ferner, Education Coordinator, San Francisco Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, ‘daviess@sfsu.edu’. Ms. Ferner is on leave student teaching at San Pedro School in San Rafael, but she will get back to you within a week.

This workshop is funded by grants from NOAA's National Estuarine Research Reserve, Marin Community Foundation and the California State Coastal Conservancy.
