Become a Campaign Partner with #Act4QueerSafety
Momentum (momentumcanada.net), a new 2SLGBTQIA+ advocacy nonprofit, is launching a call to action challenging the Government of Canada to #Act4QueerSafety and address rising anti-2SLGBTQIA+ hate. The campaign will launch on Wednesday, May 10th, at 1PM Eastern. Please do not share any information about the campaign publicly until we have launched.

Our goal at Momentum is to work collaboratively to strengthen 2SLGBTQIA+ advocacy in Canada. Through partnersip and collaboration, we can accelerate social and gender justice for 2SLGBTQIA+ people, and challenge government inaction on queer and trans issues.

The #Act4QueerSafety campaign calls on the Government of Canada to action the following 6 activities:
  • Appoint a Special Representative on addressing and preventing anti-2SLGBTQI+ hate, mandated to provide guidance and undertake activities to address rising anti-2SLGBTQIA+ hate in Canada.

  • Fund a grant program within Public Safety Canada to advance community-based education on 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusion, combat misinformation targeting queer and trans communities and build capacity of 2SLGBTQIA+ organizations, especially pride organizations, to address safety and security concerns.

  • Publicly and unequivocally condemn rising anti-2SLGBTQIA+ hate and reaffirm Canada's commitment to 2SLGBTQIA+ communities

  • Appoint a Canadian Special Envoy on International LGBTIQ+ Human Rights to promote LGBTIQ+ equality and human rights around the world

  • Ensure anti-2SLGBTQIA+ hate is meaningfully addressed in the upcoming National Action Plan on Combatting Hate

  • Host a National Summit on Third Party Violence with Unions, Governments, Employees and Civil Society Organizations

Through a petition at www.act4queersafety.ca, a public letter (details below), social media mobilization and other efforts, we will (somewhat gently) pressure the Government of Canada to act. You can visit the campaign website, or review our communications guide and visuals here for more information.

Should your organization be interested in joining the #Act4QueerSafety campaign as a partner (which largely entails supporting our campaign activities, helping mobilize, and being publicly recognized as a partner on our website and social media), please complete this form.

Following the launch of the campaign on May 10th, we would like to release an open letter with our campaign partners. We have linked the letter here, for your review.

Please complete the below form to confirm your organization as 1) a partner on the campaign and 2) a signatory of the open letter.

While we are 'keeping this under wraps' until May 10th, we welcome you to share this google form with relevant organizations that may be interested in joining the campaign. Please complete the form by May 9th at 5PM Eastern to be included in the launch. While we may collect individual endorsements down the road, at this time we are only soliciting organizational endorsements.
