Eurasian Empires: "A Tale of Two Real Estate Firms: State and Property Development in Delhi, 1947-59"

Welcome to the next Eurasian Empires workshop of the academic year 2022-23!

Anish Vanaik is an urban historian of South Asia with a particular focus on the political economy of cities. His book on real estate in Delhi, Possessing the City: Property and Politics in Delhi, 1911-47 was published in 2020. He continues to work on histories of commerce in colonial and post-colonial Delhi. Two of his other ongoing research projects take up portrayals of the Black Lives Matter Movement in political cartoons and pedagogies of the climate crisis. He is Clinical Associate Professor at the John Martinson Honors College, Purdue University.
