Ally Squared is a volunteer-run non-profit led by young people who want to create impactful allyship in society. Our close-knit team consists of mostly racialized young women from a variety of career backgrounds and interests. We’ve created a working environment that puts people first, is not hierarchical, and enjoys learning about equity together. If this seems like the kind of place you’d like to volunteer, keep reading!
As our follower base is expanding, we’re hoping to have a social media enthusiast join our team. The Social Media Coordinator would join a team of four and work on the following tasks:
1. Develop and implement a social media engagement strategy for Ally Squared
2. Lead Ally Squared’s expansion into TikTok
3. Translate our website and social media content into French and other languages
4. Monitor and engage with our followers on a daily basis
5. Review our communications metrics for areas of growth
What We’re Looking for:
1. A person who has a strong understanding of discrimination and lacking allyship. We continuously commit to ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for Black and Indigenous youth, queer and trans youth, youth from low-income backgrounds, and migrant youth. Priority will be given to those with lived experiences of discrimination.
2. Someone who enjoys and has experience developing social media strategy, especially for Twitter and TikTok.
3. Someone who speaks French, English, and/or other languages, and can easily translate content.
4. Someone who can work independently, is a strong communicator, and has integrity in their work.
5. An empathetic person who is committed to equity work and practicing allyship.
What We Consider Strong Assets:
1. Professional communications and/or translation experience.
2. Experience leading advocacy campaigns, protests, social movements.
3. Having an extensive network of contacts who are activists, educators, equity leaders, and/or legislators.
4. Knowledge of Ally Squared’s work, particularly our Ally Learning project and Inner Work podcast.
What We Offer: As a small youth-led nonprofit, we don’t have the funds to provide financial compensation to anyone on our team, whether it be a Director, team-lead, or a team member. As young people ourselves, we recognize that youth - especially racialized youth - don’t get paid for their labour. As we grow, we hope to pay our volunteers. In the meantime, here is what we can promise you’ll get from a volunteer position with us:
1. A supportive team full of mentors with vastly different experiences, who are dedicated to your growth.
2. Recommendation letters, help with fulfilling unpaid internship or course requirements, and access to our networks for potential paid opportunities.
3. Credit and by-lines for the research you do with us.
4. Access to training that focuses on building your allyship learning.
5. Autonomy, respect, and allyship, whenever and however you need us.
