The Central Atlantic Conference
sponsors a sequence of four institutes covering the History, Governance,
Theology, and Ministry of the United Church of Christ. These
courses follow the guidelines prepared by History, Theology, and Polity
teachers on the essentials of a basic one-semester course.
The Saturday Institute format is
designed to serve the needs of persons who cannot enroll in a regular
semester-length seminary course to cover this material. Completion of all four
sessions is equivalent to a “traditional” or online course in UCC
History/Polity requirement.
Goals for the
Governance Institute:
- Constituent parts of the United Church of Christ? i.e.,
the local church, conferences, and associations, national setting, General
Synod (Constitution and Bylaws)
- The past and present structure of the United Church of
Christ (“covenantal polity”)
- Patterns of accountability and autonomy in the various
settings of the church
Course Fee is $75 for
persons seeking to fulfill the UCC History/Polity requirement for
ministerial standing in the United Church of Christ.
