South Dakota 21st Century School Library Award (2022-2025)

The South Dakota State Library, a division of the SD Department of Education, formally and annually recognizes schools with libraries that meet the characteristics of a 21st Century school library through its place, professional, and program. Awards recognize the status of the library as Effective (75-79), Enhanced (80-83), or Exemplary (84-87) based on the South Dakota School Library Guidelines. Applications accepted annually from March 1 through May 1. Note: This award is open to school libraries that are staffed with certified librarians or teachers AND score at least 75.

2022 through 2025 Award Application

To apply for the award complete the following steps:

1. Online Submission: Complete this online application form. Submit the application by clicking the “SUBMIT” button at the bottom of the form. You will automatically receive a message confirming the form has been submitted. To pre-check your total score and keep a copy of the application for your records, the 21st Century School Library Self-Assessment can be used as a worksheet/tool. Access this tool at http://library.sd.gov/LIB/SLC/21stCentAward.aspx.

2. SUPPORTING EVIDENCE & EXPLANATION: In an email to the School Library Technology Coordinator, attach at least one form of evidence and a supporting explanation in EACH of the following areas: Place, Professional, and Program. There should be no less than a total of three forms of evidence submitted (at least one for each area). All submissions must be in digital format. Evidence includes but is not limited to video, photo, link, website, lesson plan, staff presentation, programming, etc. The supporting explanation, describing the connection to the evidence, may be incorporated into the evidence using a tool such as a slideshow, document, web tool, etc. You can also record a video explaining your evidence. You will receive a confirmation email upon submission.

Applications are accepted March 1 through May 1 of each year.
