The Postwar Culture Working Group (PCWG) is an interdisciplinary forum dedicated to exploring the dynamic interplay of art, poetry, literature, politics, and criticism that gave rise to distinctly new cultural landscapes in Europe and America after the Second World War.

Creative experiments with forms, gestures, strategies, and interventions that tended to spill over from the fields of literature and aesthetics into broader social and cultural movements, particularly those involving contestation and resistance, have been a focus of much of the PCWG’s programming and activities since the group was founded in 2013.

PCWG meets on a regular basis to discuss readings and works-in progress, but we also organize special events—film screenings, readings, lectures, and symposia—in association with many departments and programs across  the Humanities and professional schools, the Yale University Art Gallery, and the Beinecke Rare Book Library. Field trips to see performances, exhibitions, and conferences are also possible.

PCWG is a home for this community-in-formation, a sounding board and resonance chamber for sustaining convivial collaborative work on postwar culture at Yale.
