Thanks for your help! You'll be listening to some new songs we're considering for our upcoming worship services.
The instructions are simple: listen to the song (Youtube link) and then score each song based on: lyrics, music, and overall (how it fits Grace). If you have any comments about the song, you can type them in.
Remember, we're looking for songs we can sing (singable), we'll want to sing (compelling), and we should sing (nurtures our souls).
At the end of the survey, please choose 3 (and only 3!) songs that you would rate "your favorite." Songs that you REALLY hope we end up doing.
How do we choose good songs for corporate worship?
1. LYRICS are most important because they are what we lift up to God.
o Need to reflect Biblical truth
o Need to be clear (what are we singing about?)
o Need to be fresh – song should offer a new perspective – a fresh idea can capture people and help them engage with God.
o If the lyrics aren’t good, it doesn’t matter how good the music is
2. MUSIC should be interesting to listen to but easy and memorable
o Melody needs to be in a comfortable range
o Melody needs to be learnable in one service
o Melody needs to be memorable (do you want to sing it?)
o The music needs to fit with the lyric. For example, if the music is celebrative, are the lyrics as well?
o If the music isn’t good, people won’t care about the lyrics
3. OVERALL: Think about the congregation as you rate each song – not just your preference; how does it fit Grace?
