Accidents happen. People get hurt, sick, or lost. The temperature drops, the wind picks up, and it starts to rain. Would you know what to do? Many backcountry emergencies are preventable, and even when bad things happen, sometimes the wrong care can make things worse. By learning a few basic skills, you can make the difference between a good outcome and a bad one-and maybe even save a life.

Pine Island Camp is a traditional, non-profit camp in Belgrade, Maine that has excelled at leading backcountry trips since its founding in 1902. Jono Bryant, from Aztec Travel has taught a WFR course for Pine Island staff since 2008. This year, we're offering a WFA available to the public from June 1st-2nd.
Participants can stay on the island for the duration of the course or commute each day. For participants planning to stay at Pine Island, it is important to know that we live in a rustic setting. There are limited spaces in cabins; most participants will sleep in canvas tents. Water is hand-pumped from the well. Electricity is only available in the kitchen.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included for residential program. Lunch is included for commuters. Any dietary restrictions can be accommodated.
