The Vestavia Hills City Schools reopening plan provides students with the option of attending onsite (traditional) or remote instruction. Please read the 2020-2021 Reopening Plan prior to completing this form at http://vestavia.k12.al.us/covid19.

As the Parent or Guardian of a registered student, you will need to complete this intent form to choose the Remote Learning instructional model for your child. Please submit one (1) form per student by Tuesday, August 4, 2020. It is very important that you complete this intent form by Tuesday, August 4, so that we can finalize class rolls for every student. IF YOU WANT YOUR STUDENT TO PARTICIPATE IN TRADITIONAL (ON-CAMPUS) CLASSES, YOU DO NOT NEED TO COMPLETE THIS FORM. IF YOU ALREADY COMPLETED THIS FORM IN JULY, PLEASE DO NOT COMPLETE IT AGAIN.

REMOTE LEARNING MODEL:
The Vestavia Hills City Schools Remote Learning Model provides students with a flexible and personalized learning experience from highly-qualified and experienced Vestavia Hills City Schools teachers with a dedicated principal to oversee the operations of the remote platform. Students will be able to craft their own weekly schedule, develop self-discipline, and direct the pace and length of time spent on a topic. Students will have access to all of the VHCS resources, including a Chromebook for their remote instruction. Teachers will use a variety of learning methods and resources, including instructional videos, messaging, and video conferencing. They will also utilize the Week-at-a-Glance similar to teachers in the traditional model that assures alignment to the ALSDE content standards. All board policies, including the student code of conduct, will apply. Grading will follow the same format as the traditional model, including weighted points for high school students. Student schedules that were created this past Spring based on student requests, will be honored in the remote model. On the rare occasion that a course, elective or extra-curricular activity can not be offered in the remote model, students and families can choose either to come to an on-site class/event or select another elective/course offered remotely. It is our desire to provide students and families with the exceptional education that is a hallmark of Vestavia Hills City Schools with both the Traditional Learning Model and the Remote Learning Model so that students can learn without limits and accomplish our teaching and learning goal.
