2022 USA Games: Bowling Nomination
Every four years, Special Olympics athletes from all over the United States compete in the Special Olympics USA Games. The 2022 Special Olympics USA Summer Games will be held June 5-11 in Orlando, FL, where 4,000 athletes, 10,000 volunteers and 125,000 spectators will help make the 2022 USA Games the largest ever.  
Special Olympics Team Wisconsin will be represented by 65 Athletes and Partners in the following sports: Athletics/Swimming/Bowling/Bocce/Flag Football/Softball. Below is information and the official Special Olympics Team WI nomination form.

It is recommended these sections be completed by individuals with close knowledge of the athlete or a combination of such individuals including parents, guardians, case managers and/or coaches. Biographical information will be displayed on the Special Olympics Wisconsin (SOWI) website and used for media requests. Please take the time to be informative so each athlete is well represented to the public and media.

Please note that this is simply the nomination process. It is our hope that all nominees will be invited the Selection Camp September 17-19, 2021 where athletes are evaluated and ultimately selected by random draws.

Bowling Criteria
All the athletes selected to represent SOWI in 2022 will be a part of the Special Olympics USA competition. Athletes nominated must meet criteria defined for each sport in order to be eligible.  Athletes for Team Wisconsin will be chosen via random draw from those who are eligible

SOWI has 4 male, 4 female and 4 unified slots (2 Unified Doubles) for bowling.

To be eligible for nomination, an athlete must have earned a gold medal at one of the 4 State bowling tournaments the last 2 years (2018 and 2019). If you registered for the initial Fall Bowling League or complete the restarted Bowling League (2020/2021) you are eligible. To be eligible for the unified nomination, you must have had to competed in the 2018 or 2019 Unified Bowling Tournaments and/or competed in the 2020 Bowling League in a Unified event. We are looking for existing unified doubles. Athletes must have a minimum score of 55.

Athlete must commit to attend the USA Games for the entire length of the games including team travel and all of the SOWI USA Games Training Camps. Selection Camp: September 17-19. Training Camp: April 22-24, 2022.

Be at least 16 years old by January 1, 2022.

Be available and willing to commit to intensive training prior to the USA Summer Games under the direction of the appointed USA Games coach in cooperation with a local coach. Athletes must participate in an ongoing fitness program leading up to the Games including taking multiple fitness assessments throughout the year.

Possess the skills to be able to function as part of a team (cooperation, sharing, group living, following directions, basic social skills, flexibility and ability to handle stress).

Be able to travel by bus or plane away from home for an extended period of time.

Display behavior that is consistent with the SOWI Athlete Code of Conduct in Team WI activities as well as in other aspects of life.

Demonstrate an acceptable/sufficient level of independent self-help skills to ensure a rewarding and safe experience.

Must be willing to commit to participating in fundraising efforts conducted by Team WI. Each athlete is responsible for committing to raise a minimum of $500 toward Team WI fundraising efforts.

Must be willing to commit to attending a Global Messenger (public speaking) workshop either in person or virtually (TBD) and fulfill the practicum of making a presentation on behalf of SOWI.  This workshop is designed to give you the tools to best represent SOWI to the media as well as when speaking to your family and friends about the games.
