The Minneapolis Federation of Teachers and Education Support Professionals (MFT59) recently voted to authorize a strike. In our communities, the challenges, disruption, and hardship of the COVID pandemic have been interconnected with the uprisings following the police murder of George Floyd and the chaotic Comprehensive District Redesign. More than ever, our students need stability and support. The core demands of MFT59 - a living wage for Education Support Professionals, recruitment and retention of educators or color, mental health supports, smaller class sizes, competitive compensation for licensed staff, and more - will immediately deliver on these needs.
