To show the consequence of something. (untuk menunjukkan kelanjutan / akibat dari suatu peristiwa)

Example :
He was very hungry, so he ate all the cake (dia sangat lapar, jadi dia memakan semua kue)

To connect the result of something with its reason. (untuk menghubungkan hasil dari suatu  kejadian yang disertai dengan alasannya)

Example:
I went swimming because the water was warm.
 (saya pergi berenang karena airnya hangat)

Could to show that something is possible / ability in the past.
Example : When I was young, 40 years ago, I could jump higher than a tree
                 (saat saya muda, 40 tahun yang lalu, saya bisa melompat melampaui tinggi pohon)


Couldn’t to show  inability in the past.
Example : I couldn’t run 20 kilometers.
                 (saya tidak mampu berlari sejauh 2o kilometer.)
