This is a club where wheelers can drop-in and practice electric unicycle (wheel) riding, from first-timers to any learners. YEGWheel volunteers will help first-time riders to get started, and the club will provide gear to help with basic riding. Note: this club is not intended to offer structured instructional classes and modified programs; it's an opportunity to gain exposure and try out the exciting activity that is electric unicycling.
Club will provide small wheels suitable for indoor use for learning / practicing skills. Larger personal wheels will be permitted on a case by case basis and must be used in a way that does not leave a mess in the hall, particularly if they are normally used outdoors.
For indoor, one-time registration is required to participate in the YEGWheel Club. This is to ensure children have parental/guardian consent, that parents/guardians are informed of the risks in participating, and to ensure all participants are community league members and therefore covered under Ritchie's insurance policy.
Once registered, you can drop-in any week, any time. If you show up and there are already 10 wheelers, you may have to wait. Runs every other Saturday from Jan 27 - Mar 23. 12:30-2:30PM in the large hall.
Wheel Etiquette
-First on course, first to go.
-Make eye contact. Look for wheelers in the loop so they know you're going in.
-Travel is around the course, even if not using the obstacles.
-Always travel the same direction as traffic
-Save the walls/stage. Do your best to stop your wheel from hitting walls.
-Children eight years or younger require a parent on course unless the child can demonstrate compliance with wheel etiquette and hall rules.
-Listen to coaches. They are volunteering and keen to share tips but also responsible for the club and hall use.
Membership: Proof of Ritchie Community League Membership or a home league membership is required to ensure participants are insured during the program.
