CASA of Marion County remains committed to our mission that every foster child will have a safe and permanent home. With these challenging times, CASA volunteers are needed more than ever! We will be conducting the first and last class in person, but the bulk of the training will be virtually.
What is a CASA? A CASA is a volunteer from the community who advocates for a foster child or sibling group from our county.
Who are the children? All the children CASA serves are victims of abuse and neglect based out of Marion County.
Who are our volunteers? Our volunteers are from all walks of life! Volunteers must be 21 years of age, be willing to complete a background check, and be committed to working with their foster child for the entirety of the case.
What is the process?
1. Complete this form
2. A CASA staff member will be in touch by email to send you an official application and then to schedule an interview. This will be conducted via Zoom or in person. This interview will take approximately 1 hour. There are no right or wrong answers to the interview questions, it just allows the staff to get to know you better so we can ensure we match our volunteers and child to the best of our ability!
3. Once your interview is completed, an exact date/time will be determined once we access the availabilities of the volunteers in the class. We typically have 7-8 classes total, but sometimes we are able to combine a few. Each class takes around 2 hours and there will be some additional reading between each class.
4. Once all classes are completed, you will then go before a Judge to take an oath as a CASA volunteer. Family is invited to celebrate this awesome achievement with you!
7. You will then be matched with a child or sibling set who you will visit with on a monthly basis. You will also participate in court hearings and team meetings related to their case.
