DJ 101 Application
DJ 101 is a ten-week course at the YMCA Lighthouse Project that teaches high school youth the essential skills to be a DJ in the digital age.

DJ 101 will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 to 7:30 PM from Oct. 19 to Dec. 9 in the Lighthouse teen center at the Homewood-Brushton YMCA.  Transportation home will be provided to youth living in 15208, 15206, and 15221. Classes take place from 6:00 to 7:30 PM with lab time before class from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM. Dinner is provided at 5:30pm between lab and class time.

Professional DJ-producers and Lighthouse teaching artists David Shoemaker (aka DJ Shoe) and Charlie Scott (C. Scott) will lead hands-on classes as students work towards DJing their own live event. Along the way, students will explore DJing history, rising global sounds, and connections between dance music genres. Lighthouse will provide all the equipment and software each student needs including iPads, djay Pro software and Pioneer WeGO controllers. This course is an opportunity for youth to learn a fun, creative skill that could turn into a profitable career or hobby.

Any high school student in the Pittsburgh area is welcome to apply. We encourage candidates who have a passion for music. No prior experience with DJing is necessary.

If we receive more than 10 applicants, students will be chosen based on thoughtful responses below and their commitment to attending all 20 classes.

Applications are due by Friday, October 15, 2021.
