As rank-and-file nurses, we are urgently calling upon the elected leadership of our union and Region 15 to reaffirm their commitment to democracy, transparency, accountability, and equal representation within our union. We believe this commitment should encompass the following:
1. **Voting Rights and Transparency**: Every dues paying VA nurse should receive a ballot for leadership elections!
2. **Democratic Integrity**: Preserve the democratic union structures within the Veterans Affairs (VA) system: Our structures are unique inside the union and these democratic processes maintain our power against management!
3. **Comprehensive Union Rights**: Renew and re-invigorate our union’s campaign to extend full union rights to all VA members, advocating for policies that protect member rights and welfare!
4. **Decision-Making Autonomy**: Empower nurses with the autonomy to make informed democratic decisions on arbitration and TA ratification, rather than these being dictated by union staff.
This call is crucial for a stronger, democratic, and effective union that genuinely represents its members. We urge immediate dialogue and action to address these proposals.
