Are you interested in joining something amazing?!?!?!?! We are forming a group that is going to shape the direction and next steps for school culture and climate transformation at Great Falls Middle School and Turners Falls High School. Here are some of the themes we'll address:
•
The sense that a culture of racism/intolerance persists at the schools.
•
A perceived lack of institutional/administrative commitment to social justice and anti-racism work.
•
Concerns that policies regarding student discipline are unclear/vague. When students encounter the discipline system, it is ineffective and/or discrepantly applied.
•
The need for meaningful, ongoing, and systematic social justice and anti-racism training for students, faculty/staff, and administrators.
•
The perception that social justice and anti-racism problems extend beyond the schools, and are complicated by racism that may be prevalent in the community.
This group will be facilitated by Safire DeJong and Keisha Green, education equity experts from the Collaborative for Educational Services (CES).To ensure that the whole school community is involved and represented, the group will include students, parent/guardians, school staff, and administrators. Transportation, childcare, interpretation, and other supports can be arranged if needed.
We hope you will join us! If you are willing to productively engage in a relational, respectful, and dialogic process with others in the group, including students and other members of the school community, you can be part of this team. We are having an all-day orientation meeting on Tuesday, June 25th and will hold evening meetings once a month during the upcoming school year.
