Dear Delcastle Parent/Guardian,
The Delcastle Schoolwide Plan is designed to improve the academic outcomes of all students and provides extra support to students who struggle.
As part of Titles I - IV federal regulations, the Schoolwide Plan requires parent participation. This survey asks for your suggestions and recommendations for how to improve academic outcomes for Delcastle students.
The Schoolwide Plan includes seven sections for parent feedback. Each question below asks for your feedback on those sections.

1. SCHOOLWIDE REFORM STRATEGIES focuses on academic supports for students. Activities in place at Delcastle: (1) Delcastle is a fully inclusive environment, where students who have an IEP and a 504 Plan are included in all general classes (2) Federal Title I funds provide four English teachers and three math teachers (3) All teachers participate in regular professional development to build best practices (4) Make up credits available for students who are behind in order to stay on track for graduation (5) All students have an individual Chromebook to support learning. Please provide any recommendations or feedback on SCHOOLWIDE REFORM STRATEGIES below.
2. EFFECTIVE AND TIMELY ASSISTANCE TO STUDENTS focuses on additional support for students who struggle the most. Activities in place at Delcastle: (1) Learning Support Coaches bring special education supports to students in the general classes (2) English as a Second Language teachers provide extra time and extra support for English Learners (3) Variety of supports available to all students: school counselor, school psychologist, Wellness Center, student advisors, school nurse, Parent and Community Engagement Coordinator (4) Extra time available outside of class for students to meet with teachers (5) Free Internet support is provided for homeless students. Please provide any recommendations or feedback on EFFECTIVE AND TIMELY ASSISTANCE TO STUDENTS below
3. STRATEGIES TO INCREASE PARENT INVOLVEMENT Activities in place at Delcastle: (1) Mr. Howell, the Parent and Community Engagement Coordinator, maintains contact with families (2) Delcastle Parent Teacher Association meets regularly (3) Delcastle distributes a regular newsletter and also provides regular “Alert Now” messages to keep parents informed (4) The school district holds parent council meetings for parents of students who have an IEP. Please provide any recommendations or feedback on STRATEGIES TO INCREASE PARENT INVOLVEMENT below
4. TRANSITION focuses on preparing students for taking their next step. Activities in place at Delcastle: (1) Summer Home Visit Program where a staff member meets with the family of all new 9th gr students (2) Vocational Specialist Mr. Boone focuses on Coop Employment placement for all eligible seniors (3) District Transition Coordinator Ms. Williams meets with all 11th and 12th gr students who have an IEP to make a plan for their next steps after graduation (4) 18-21 Program is available for students who have an IEP and require additional employment training. Please provide any recommendations or feedback on TRANSITION below
5. HIGH QUALITY PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT Activities in place at Delcastle: (1) Instructional Leadership Team meets regularly to build best instructional practices (2) All staff participate in regular Diversity, Equity and Inclusion training (3) All staff participated in training on the impact of trauma on student learning (4) Small group Professional Learning Cohorts meet weekly to focus on best teaching practices (5) District Instructional Specialists in academic and vocational areas meet regularly with teachers. Please provide any recommendations or feedback on HIGH QUALITY PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT below
6. INSTRUCTION BY HIGHLY QUALIFIED STAFF Activities in place at Delcastle: (1) All teachers must be certified by State (or, in CTE, on pathway toward certification) (2) Para educators must be certified by State (3) District Director of Instruction leads a department that focuses on all teachers delivering high quality instruction (4) Human Resources Director oversees hiring practices that meet state qualifications. Please provide any recommendations or feedback on INSTRUCTION BY HIGHLY QUALIFIED STAFF below
7. STATEGIES TO ATTRACT HIGHLY QUALIFIED TEACHERS Activities in place at Delcastle: (1) Human Resources director attends teacher recruitment fairs at several local universities, including Historically Black Colleges and Universities (2) Delcastle welcomes and supports Student Teachers (3) New teacher mentoring plan in place. Please provide any recommendations or feedback on STRATEGIES TO ATTRACT HIGHLY QUALIFIED TEACHERS below
