The Berkeley Bayit Application 2022-2023 (Late Rolling Phase)
Please fill out this form to apply to live at the Berkeley Bayit, Berkeley's coolest (and only) Jewish co-op!

"The Berkeley Bayit is intended to provide its residents with more than a Jewish living experience. The Bayit hosts a dynamic and challenging environment whose objective is to stimulate personal growth, commitment to the Jewish traditions and community, and to encourage an active role in the Berkeley Jewish Community." - Bayit Statement of Purpose

After you submit, and should a spot remain open, we will reach out to you to schedule an informal interview with the current members of the Bayit (the Bayitniks!). Until then, feel free to reach out and join us for a house dinner, tour, hangout, etc.

Currently, in this late application rolling phase, we are only taking applicants for our triple room.

Along with being a Jewish organization, the Bayit is also a daily communal living space. This means we each work a minimum of 5 chore hours per week, which can consist of cooking, cleaning, gardening, managing house logistics, and more. Once a semester, we reserve a Sunday for a Work Day in which we deep clean the whole house. We also have one hour house meetings every Sunday night and occasional house events where we host guests. Are you able/willing to commit this time? *
The Bayit has a kosher kitchen, meaning that everything in our kitchen is either certified kosher or vegan. Our everyday practice is to maintain a dairy kitchen with the rare meat meal, meaning that we are a primarily pescatarian household. We do, however, have a personal fridge and non-kosher microwave for food cooked elsewhere and other personal items. Are you willing to uphold these dietary standards? *
(~100-200 Word Response) Please describe your favorite experience in a Jewish setting: *
(~200-400 Word Response) Our house's mission is to create a warm, welcoming, and tight-knit Jewish environment at college that develops leadership and community-building skills. The Bayit accomplishes this by being responsible for planning and hosting holiday/cultural events and being leaders among the greater Berkeley Jewish student community. What do you want to learn or gain from living in the Bayit? How do you see yourself contributing to the Bayit?  How do you see yourself helping the house contribute to the Jewish community? *
TRIVIA TIME: Who is the architect of the Berkeley Bayit? Hint: you might find the answer at www.berkeleybayit.org! :) *
If you weren't sleeping at 2am, what would you be doing? *
