We are excited to announce the launch of our "Economic Justice and Advocacy Certificate," aimed at supporting survivors of gender-based violence (GBV) through economic empowerment. We invite our dedicated community members like yourself, who share our commitment to being an ally with GBV survivors, to apply for this unique opportunity.
The Community Scholarship Program seeks to provide financial support and resources to community members who aspire to create sustainable solutions and services that will contribute to the economic empowerment of GBV survivors. Each eligible applicant will receive up to $700 toward their tuition and fee to pursue the certificate.
The certificate comprises 10 credit hours of coursework. Students will acquire a foundational knowledge of victim advocacy and develop strong written communication skills through the following courses:
1. CRJ 100 Workshop in Criminal Justice: Economic Justice and Advocacy (1 credit)
2. CRJ 367 Victim Advocacy (3 credits)
3. BCOM 210 Intro to Professional Development (3 credits)
4. SOC 664 Social Entrepreneurship and Grassroots Social Action (3 credits)
SOC 680 Nonprofit Organizations (3 credits)
A special 1-credit hour course within the certificate focuses on developing a toolkit or project to be shared with students, faculty, staff, and the community, raising awareness about economic independence among GBV survivors in rural communities.
We encourage applications from individuals who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of GBV survivors and have innovative ideas or projects focused on economic empowerment.
