Daya S.A.F.E. Program - Application
South Asians For Empowerment (S.A.F.E.) is a dynamic prevention program by Daya for South Asian American youth, ages 15 to 18 years old.

How does the South Asian community often fit into the conversations around preventing domestic and sexual violence? Where are our voices in the #MeToo movement? Parents and young adults struggle with these critical conversations. Due to cultural taboos, South Asian youth face additional challenges as they address violence and help survivors in their community.

Daya's mission is to empower South Asian survivors of domestic and sexual violence through culturally specific services and to educate the community in an effort to end the cycle of abuse. The S.A.F.E. Program provides South Asian youth with tools and techniques to stop the generational cycle of abuse in our community.

Through a dynamic curriculum, participants will unpack cultural taboos, learn about healthy versus unhealthy relationships, and examine the impact of popular culture and social media on domestic and sexual violence. The program will also provide resources and mentorship to help participants take action. This program has 4 sessions to explore what we hear, what we feel, what we see, and what we can do: Societal Messages in the Desi Community, Healthy Relationships, Media & Social Media, Amplify & Take Action.

Each participant will complete a project and receive a certificate of completion and recommendation letter.

The inaugural date is September 14, 2019, 4-6pm.
The second session meeting date is November 2, 2019, 4-6 pm
Venue: The Lake House, 25202 Springwood Lake Dr., Katy, TX 77494
