Conference on Volunteerism
Co-Hosted By: Volunteer Management Professionals of Canada (VMPC) and The Administrators of Volunteer Resources – Saskatchewan (AVR-SK)

Welcome and thank you for your interest in submitting a speaker/session proposal for the Conference on Volunteerism (The Annual Volunteer Management Professionals Conference). The success of the conference is a direct reflection of the quality and appropriateness of the sessions and speakers, so we are deeply appreciative of your commitment to this endeavor.


The Theme of our conference is VUCA2: Whether you are fully experiencing the effects of leading, managing and operating in a VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous) World or you are seeking to lead, manage and operate by the new order of VUCA (Values, Unity, Connectedness and Abundance), the Canadian Volunteer Management Professionals Conference is the place for you to be.

Please use the sections below to submit your speaker/sessions proposals.

Presentation selections will be made based upon Fit with Sessions themes, educational value and Presenter experience with topic and presenting.  Selected content may be published in conference publications and online.  Conference committee is happy to provide support and guidance to first time presenters!  Presenters are encouraged to design their sessions to be interactive making use of experiential learning techniques that follow sound adult learning principles.

Speaker Selection Schedule

The conference program committee will set the day and time for each presentation, in order to optimize the sequencing and flow of content and tracks.  We will notify all selected speakers by March 30th, 2020 with their scheduled time.

Proposal Submission Timeline

Submission process opens:  December 6, 2019

Submission process closes:  February 14, 2020

Notification of acceptance:  March 1, 2020

Submission of bio/headshots:  March 14, 2020

Submission of Session Handouts for reproduction and inclusion in conference packages, digitally, send electronically:  April 30, 2020

Conference presentation dates:  June 8 – 10, 2020

Speaker Benefits

All speakers may be eligible to receive an honorarium of $100.  Speakers will be featured in the Conference publication and on the website.  The conference does not cover travel expenses or conference fees for its speakers.

There are two session types organized into three themes. Please read the descriptions below then indicate a session type.
Session Types:

1) Deep Dive Workshops – These sessions (3 hours in length) are designed to be intense and richer
conversations and exploration of topics. They will be workshops led by content experts with an
opportunity for conference attendees to learn about results and impacts as well explore ways in
which they can take the experiences and learning back to their home jurisdiction for action. Think
role up your sleeves and learn by doing.

2) Breakout Sessions – These will be a series of shorter presentations (90 mins in length) and discussion
topics led by subject matter experts and persons with experience in the related theme and topic.
Think trends, case studies, research findings etc. and shorter instructional topics.

Recognizing and Re-engaging volunteers. Trends and patterns in volunteer management.

2) Volunteer Management Advanced – Strategic Volunteer Management and Leadership; Long Range
planning; Anticipating needs and changes based on trends, workplace and marketplace changes, cultural
shifts and changing demands.

3) Managing Volatility – Communications; Marketing; Messaging; Social Channels and Traditional Media;
Crisis Management, diversity and inclusivity, multiple demographics in the workplace.
