Impact of Parental Stress on Parent Child Relationship in young parents with Mediating Effects on Types of Coping Strategies Employed

Dear participant, 

You have been invited to take part in the study described below. Before agreeing to participate in my study, it is important that you read the following explanation of this study. These statements describe the purpose, procedures, benefits, risks, discomforts, and precautions in participating in this study. 

To participate in this study, you must be: 

  • Young parents aged 20-45 years old
  • Parents with either 1 child only (aged 6 years old and below) or 2 children only (aged 6 years old and below).

  • Child(ren) who have normal/standard brain functions, behaviours and processing (neurotypical). 
  • Must be able to understand, read and write in English.

  • Must be a Malaysian citizen/permanent resident. 

The purpose of the study: 

To examine the moderating effect of coping strategies between parental stress and parent child relationship with young parents with one or two children; aged 6 years and below.  


Explanation Procedures: 

You will be asked to fill in Demographic Information form, Parental Stress Scale, Child-Parent Relationship Scale, Brief COPE scale. This should take no longer than 20 minutes. 


Risk and discomfort:
There are no risks involved. You are under no obligation to participate in this study, and you may choose to withdraw your participation at any point if you experience any major discomfort without any adverse action taken against you.

Your participation in this study is strictly confidential. None of the information will identify you by name. None of the information you provide will be released or used except for the purpose of this study. All records will only be handled by the researcher and research supervisor. Only the final report and group data will be reported. 


Right of Refusal to participate and withdraw without prejudice: 

Your participation in this study is voluntary. Refusal to participate will involve no penalty. You are free to withdraw consent and discontinue participation in this research at any time without prejudice. If you wish to do so, simply stop answering the questions. If you do withdraw from the study, the materials that you have completed up to that point will be discarded and will not be included in the study.
